What is a Digital Signature Certificate?

Digital signature certificates (DSC) are the digital equivalent (that is electronic format) of physical or paper certificates. Examples of physical certificates are drivers\' licenses, passports or membership cards.
Certificates serve as a proof of identity of an individual for a certain purpose; for example a driver\'s license identifies someone who can legally drive in a particular country.
Likewise, a digital certificate can be presented electronically to prove your identity, to access information or services on the Internet or to sign certain documents digitally.

Why is Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) required?

Like physical documents are signed manually, electronic documents, for example once you are filing the annual returns online, e-forms are required to be signed digitally with the help of Digital Signature Certificate. As per MCA21 project of ministry of company affairs all the company forms have to be filed electronically.

Who issues the Digital Signature Certificate?

A licensed Certifying Authority (CA) issues the digital signature. Certifying Authority (CA) means a person who has been granted a license to issue a digital signature certificate under Section 24 of the Indian IT-Act 2000.

Who can apply for digital signature certificate?

Any individual/organization can apply to the certifying authority for issue of a DSC in the prescribed form.

What are the documents required for applying digital signature certificates?

Attested copy of Pan card, govt issued valid address proof(Passport, Driving Licence, Voter Id etc.) and duly filled application form.

Who can attest my documents?

Documents can be attested by any Chartered Accountant, Bank Manager or Notary.

Should I apply for new or renewal certificates?

One needs to apply for new certificate, if you have never owned a digital signature certificate. One needs to apply for renewal certificate, if you already own a digital signature certificate from any Certifying Authority. I already have an existing certificate from a different service provider.

 Can I apply for a renewal through ? Yes. You can renew the same certificate through us.

How secure is my Digital Signature stored in

e-sol has taken resonable precautions to store all your Digital Signature safely. Our advanced security feature will allow you to Lock and Unlock your certificates. After you download your certificate you can lock the same. So that the certificate will not be available for download. Once you select Unlock, then the certificate activation email will come to your registered email id. Through that only you can activate the certificate and made it available to download again. Only registered users are allowed to download thier certificates from All users are advised not to share your user password with anyone else. Additionally to prevent any misuse of digital signatures all IP addressess are recorded for each and every downloads. Users are also adviced to remove the certificate from the computer after the use, in case of using it through a public computer.

Why e-Token is not required through is a fully dedicated web portal for digital signatures where you can access your digital signature 24/7/365 online from anywhwere across the globe. Therefore you do not have to carry e-Token or any other hardware device for your digital signature. You also have the added advantage of not having Software Driver issues which was always an inherent problem of Trust Key.

How much time do you require to issue a digital signature certificate? issues digital signature certificates within 1-3 business days from the receipt of documents (hard copy of duly filled application form and attested supporting documents), on Monday to Saturday 10am - 6pm excluding holidays. Applications received after 6pm will be processed on the next working day.

I have already send the scanned copy of the documents. Do I need to send the hard copies also?

Yes. Scanned copies can be used only for pre-verification of documents. We require Hard copies for issuance of the certificate as per new CCA guidelines.

How is a Digital Signature affixed to an e-form?

Click the Digital Signature field in the e-form. The system will prompt you to sign the e-form through a digital signature that is stored on your System.

Is a company required to obtain a Digital Signature Certificate in its own name for e-filing?

No. Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is required only for individuals. For example the Director or the Company Secretary, signing on behalf of the Company requires a DSC.

Can I do e-filing of documents if I do not possess a DSC?

No. it is mandatory to have a valid digital signature certificate for e-filing the forms on MCA portal.

Are multiple DSCs required for professionals rendering services to different companies?

No. A DSC is unique to each individual. If a professional has obtained a DSC, he/ she can use the same DSC for e-filing of forms for multiple companies, provided he/ she has been authorized to do so by the respective companies.
